The Maiden Voyage
Welcome to Poulsbo, Washington. This is a small town on Puget Sound, sitting on the edge of Liberty Bay. There is a heavy presence of Scandinavian history here. Norwegians settled here a long time ago. The people preserved cod that was brought down from Alaska to be shipped out in every direction. Logging was a staple industry for centuries. The Suquamish Tribe also reside here, they perfected hunting, fishing, and collecting oysters and clams.
Today Poulsbo is a destination town. Its main street is in motion with bends and curves. The shops are curated with thoughtful Scandinavian flare. It’s not the typical tourist town we all know too well.
Today, this town has a charm that stands alone. And it is all because of a special man with a vision. Bill Austin came to America in the early 1970s. Over the years he has elevated this Poulsbo to the eye catching spectacle it has become, people come from around the world to see it. Every direction you look has been touched by him. I was fortunate to cross his path, and he helped my vision materialize. This pop-up show is dedicated to him. He is an inspiration, showing how much just one person can make change, aadding beauty wherever it can make a difference.
This Pop-Up Art Exhibit is hosted by Indigo Plum on Front St. in Historical Downtown Poulsbo. The show will be at the storefront outdoors on July 17, 2024 from 10am-6pm
Thank you for joining me on this journey. I hope you enjoy my interpretation of this wonderful town. And I hope you follow along and join me at my next destination.
